BSL gallery tours and presentations

Melissa Mostyn leading the BSL tour of Azzedine AlaÏa: The Couturier at the Design Museum, September 2018.

Since 2004 I have led a variety of tours in BSL in major galleries and museums including V&A, The Wallace Collection, The Royal Academy of Arts, Tate, and Modern Art Oxford. I see these as an opportunity to expand my critical thinking and understanding of art & design history and theory, thus enriching my art practice.

More recently I have had the pleasure of covering Azzedine Alaïa the Couturier at the Design Museum (25th September 2018), Rachel Maclean’s The Lion and the Unicorn at The National Gallery (25th January 2019) – both in London – and Royal Weddings at Windsor Castle (25th May 2019). A short clip of me presenting Andrea del Sarto’s Woman in Yellow in BSL at the Queen’s Gallery, Buckingham Palace, is due to be uploaded soon.

Feedback has been positive so far, with some attracting new Deaf audiences, and I plan to do more when time and family commitments allow.

If you’d like to book me for a BSL tour (email: mostynmelissa at gmail dot com), please note the following areas of interest:

  • Postwar British and international fashion
  • Fashion in painting through the ages
  • French, American and British conceptual art from the ’50s and ’60s
  • French and American Impressionism
  • British contemporary art from 1988 onwards
  • Italian Futurism
  • Russian Constructivism
  • Dada/Surrealism
